NJNP recognizes the countless barriers that trans folx face when attempting to access basic needs, such as employment, housing, and human services. That’s why our Trans Justice Program has worked to train, employ, and provide mutual aid to young trans organizers and activists in DC on occupied Piscataway land. Our work has grown more quickly than anticipated  and I write because we need your help to keep this important movement building effort going strong.

Because of the massive barriers that trans people – especially black and brown trans women and trans femmine people – face, this community has depended disproportionately on survival sex work to meet basic needs like shelter and food. On top of the already monumental barriers faced most severely by these members of our larger LGBTQ2SIA+ family, two laws - FOSTA & SESTA - were recently passed that have had devastating impacts on our communities, including forcing many more into street-based survival sex work.

To lead the work most devastatingly impacting their communities, these 3 brilliant organizers-in-training are learning the histories of our liberation movements, Organizing 101’s, how to movement building capacity, and the 'Steps to a House Call. In essence, the program teaches the fundamentals of building community power. Our current program participants are already putting their new skills to work on No Justice No Pride’s Community Safety Survey and organizing with local Trans and Queer communities most directly and severely impacted by FOSTA/SESTA. We want to keep this going but can’t do it without you!

NJNP is providing temporary housing between 6 -12 housing-unstable trans and queer folx – depending on the week –  as well as assistance in seeking out employment opportunities and access to resources. This rapid response effort is, no doubt, a reaction to the lived violences of Backpage, Craigslist Personal Ads, and other websites being taken down.

We need your support now more than ever if we hope to be able to continue the work toward decriminalizing sex work, making DC public spaces safer for our communities, and bringing the LGBTQ Movement back to its radical roots of Trans and Queer resistance to the forces that are killing us.

If you can give $5, $15, $25, $50 or more today, it will do so much to support Trans organizers working to protect our communities.
